ADA Website Accessibility Lawsuit: a grocery retailer

Gabriel Lalli, a visually impaired individual represented by WILSHIRE LAW FIRM, has filed a class action lawsuit against a major grocery retailer in the United States District Court for the Central District of California on February 11, 2021. The complaint alleges that the retailer's digital platform fails to provide full and equal access to blind and visually impaired consumers, thereby violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California's Unruh Civil Rights Act.

The lawsuit specifically details a range of accessibility barriers present on the online grocery service's digital platform. These alleged violations include a lack of alternative text for non-text elements and images, missing title frames for identification and navigation, the absence of equivalent text for scripts, forms that do not offer the same functionality as for sighted users, and web pages without descriptive titles. Additionally, issues such as inaccessible Portable Document Format (PDFs), empty links, redundant links, and a keyboard-operable user interface lacking a discernible focus indicator were cited, making the platform independently unusable for screen-reader users.
