ADA Website Accessibility Lawsuit: An Online Restaurant Service Provider

CRYSTAL REDICK has filed a lawsuit against an online restaurant service provider in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Orange, on September 23, 2025. The plaintiff alleges violations of ADA Title III and California's Unruh Civil Rights Act due to the inaccessibility of the online restaurant service provider's website to visually impaired users.

The complaint details numerous WCAG violations, including missing text equivalents for non-text elements, lack of descriptive title frames and web page titles, inaccessible scripts, forms not equivalent to sighted versions, content meaning and structure not conveyed visually, text resizing issues, ambiguous link texts, and keyboard navigation failures with indiscernible focus indicators. Other alleged barriers include undetermined default human language, changes in context without warning, missing labels or instructions for user input (e.g., captchas), markup language errors, inaccessible Portable Document Format (PDFs), undetermined name and role of User Interface elements, redirects to external websites without warning, navigation menu elements not announcing their role or state, improperly inserted landmarks, and unclear form field labels.

This legal action highlights the critical importance for all businesses, especially online restaurant service providers, to ensure their digital platforms comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2 AA).
